Engine-mount, downtube, footboard and side-stand fasteners — most follow the Engine R&I tightening sequence.

S = follow the specific tightening sequence (see the Engine Removal/Installation chapter) · L = apply a non-permanent locking agent.
The downtubes carry the engine; refit them in the set tightening sequence.
Downtube
Raise the rear wheel with the jack (57001-1238) and attachment (57001-1571). Work one side at a time.
- 1
Right side: remove the muffler & exhaust pipes (see Engine Top End), the right footboard, and the brake pedal & rear master cylinder, then the lower downtube bolts, engine mounting bolt, mounting-bracket bolts & bracket, the upper downtube bolts and the downtube.
- 2
Left side: remove the left footboard, clutch cable, horn and side-stand switch connector, then the same downtube and engine-mount fasteners.
- 3
On installation, torque the fasteners in sequence: 1 front downtube nuts, 2 lower engine bracket bolts, 3 front engine mounting nut, 4 rear downtube bolts.
Torquefront DT 88 · lower bracket 59 · front mount 44 · rear DT 108 N·mTighten the front and rear downtube mounting bolts alternately, two passes, for even torque.
Footboard removal/assembly (new circlip, greased pin) and side-stand installation with a locked switch bolt.
Footboards
- 1
Remove a footboard by undoing its bracket bolts; on the left side the shift pedal comes off with it.
- 2
To rebuild, replace the circlip with a new one, grease the footboard/bracket/pin contact faces, reassemble the damper, footboard, bank sensor and pin, fit the spring as shown, oil the bushings, and torque the bracket bolts.

Side stand
- 1
Grease the frame/side-stand contact, fit the side stand with its bolt & nut and torque them.
Torque44 N·m - 2
Fit the spring and side-stand switch, apply a non-permanent locking agent to the switch mounting bolt and torque it; confirm it is not loosening, and route the switch lead per the Appendix.

The right side cover is locked by the ignition key — turn the key clockwise until the slot is vertical to release it, and counter-clockwise to horizontal to secure it. The left side cover is held by a single screw and stoppers.src: Kawasaki VN2000-A1 Service Manual — Periodic Maintenance (Torque & Locking Agent / Specifications tables, pp. 2-7…2-13)
Visually inspect the frame for cracks, dents, bending or warp. A repaired frame may fail in use and cause an accident — if the frame is bent, dented, cracked or warped, replace it; do not attempt to straighten and reuse it.src: Kawasaki VN2000-A1 Service Manual — Periodic Maintenance (Torque & Locking Agent / Specifications tables, pp. 2-7…2-13)
