A Denso digital fuel-injection system meters fuel and sets ignition timing from a suite of sensors — there is no carburettor and nothing to adjust on the fuelling under normal service.
The VN2000 uses a Denso Digital Fuel Injection (DFI) system in place of a carburettor. The Electronic Control Unit (ECU) reads engine speed, throttle position, inlet-air pressure and temperature, atmospheric pressure, coolant temperature, gear position and lean angle, then computes the injection quantity and ignition timing for each cylinder. A high-pressure electric fuel pump feeds two injectors through a regulated rail. Because the mixture is computed, there is nothing to tune by hand: no jets, no pilot screw, and the throttle and subthrottle sensors are non-adjustable and non-removable. Routine owner attention is limited to the air-cleaner element, idle speed, throttle free play and reacting to the FI warning indicator. Reference values for fault tracing; sensor input supply is 4.75 – 5.25 V DC. Measure with the Kawasaki hand tester per the relevant service-code procedure.

The fuel-pump bolts are torqued low and sealed — over-tightening distorts the pump flange and the tank-top seal. The relief valve lives in the lubrication circuit but is listed with the fuel-side fasteners in the manual.
Petrol under pressure plus a voltage-sensitive ECU — these rules prevent a fire, a ruined ECU or a seized pump.
When any fuel hose is disconnected, fuel can spout out under residual line pressure even with the engine off. Do not run the fuel pump dry — it will seize. Do not add fuel-antifreeze chemicals to the petrol; they corrode and clog the fuel system. The DFI system runs on a 12 V sealed battery — fit no other type. Protect the ECU: never reverse the battery leads; never disconnect the battery or any electrical connection with the ignition ON or the engine running (the surge damages terminals and DFI parts); remove the battery from the bike before charging it. When disconnecting DFI connectors, switch the ignition OFF and disconnect the battery (–) terminal first, pull the connector not the lead, and click every connector fully home before starting. Do not turn the ignition ON with any DFI connector unplugged — the ECU stores a fault code. When the ECU detects a sensor or actuator fault it lights the FI indicator and stores a numeric service code (DTC) you can read back.
The ECU continuously monitors the DFI and ignition electrics. If a signal falls outside its usable range or a circuit goes open/short, the ECU lights the FI warning indicator and memorises a two-digit service code. The codes are read out by the blink pattern of the FI indicator LED (or with the Kawasaki diagnostic tool) and cleared after the fault is fixed. A stored code points at a sensor, actuator or its wiring — not necessarily a failed part; check the wiring and connectors first, then the part’s input/output voltage and resistance, and only replace the ECU once everything else checks good.src: Kawasaki VN2000-A1 Service Manual — Periodic Maintenance (Torque & Locking Agent / Specifications tables, pp. 2-7…2-13)

The ECU may itself be involved: if every listed part and circuit checks good, verify the ECU ground and power supply, and replace the ECU only if those are good too.
Limp-home backups: if the main throttle sensor (code 11) signal leaves its 0.2 – 4.8 V usable range, the ECU locks ignition timing at the closed-throttle value and runs the DFI in the “D-J” (speed-density) method so the bike still runs. If the inlet-air-pressure sensor (code 12) also fails, it falls back to the “α-N” (throttle-angle/rpm) method. Check idle with the engine fully warm: it should hold 900 ± 50 r/min and must not change when you sweep the handlebars lock to lock (if it does, the throttle cables are routed wrong or adjusted too tight). Set idle on the throttle-body adjusting screw. Throttle free play is the 2–3 mm of slack at the grip before the throttle starts to open; set it at the cable adjusters. Fuel pressure check (outline)
Done with the engine running and the gauge teed into the high-pressure line. Relieve pressure before opening the line.

Stop the engine and relieve the residual fuel pressure before disconnecting any fuel fitting.
WarningPetrol is under pressure and highly flammable. Work in a ventilated area away from sparks and flame; catch any fuel in clean cloth.

Connect the fuel-pressure gauge into the high-pressure line with the adapter 57001-1593.

Turn the ignition ON and read the pressure with the pump running.
Expect ~304 kPa right after switch-on; it settles to ~280 kPa a few seconds after the pump stops.

Start the engine and confirm ~304 kPa at idle.
Low or unstable pressure points to the pump or its built-in regulator — the regulator is not separately serviceable; replace the fuel pump.
